Get answers to the questions most frequently asked about running the Jinshanling Great Wall Marathon.

WHAT IS THE RACE DATE AND LOCATION?

The 2020 race takes place on Sunday, April 12, 2020.

Jinshanling Great Wall marathon takes place in Lanping County Chengde City, Hebei Provenience, about two hours bus ride from Beijing.

WHEN IS REGISTRATION CLOSING?

The deadline to register for the race is 1-month before the race date, for the 2019 race registration will close on March 21, 2019. Due to event planning and logistics, we are not able to accept registration entries after this date.

WHAT KIND OF TOUR PACKAGES DO YOU PROVIDE?

We provide 3 days 4 nights (no tour) and 5 days 6 nights Beijing tour package, that runners can register on line. We also provide a few extended tour packages, 1) After event tour to Shanghai 2) After event tour to Xian, Shanghai; 3) After event tour to Xian, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou. For all after event tours packages we provide group (10+ people) only. We will provide professional tour guide with multi-language services to the tour groups. We welcome Marathon tour travel agencies to work with us for long term cooperation. Please contact us directly for tour cooperation.

PACKET PICKUP LOCATION

NOTE: 2019 check-in and packet pick-up final location and schedule will be finalized and announced as we get closer to the race date.

For those who are not able to make it to the packet pickup on April 11, you can pick up on April 12 or at the start line. Bring your passport ID when checking in.

BUS PICKUP LOCATION

NOTE: 2019 bus pick-up final location and schedule will be finalized and announced as we get closer to the race date. 

Runners and spectators who are riding the bus meet at the Hotel in Beijing.

WHAT ARE THE CUT-OFF TIMES?

Race time limits are as follows:

  • 9-Hours – Full Marathon
  • 6-Hours – Half Marathon
  • 3-Hours – 10K

WILL THERE BE AID-STATIONS ON THE COURSE?

Yes. There are multiple stations on the course ranging from 3 to 7 stations depending on which course you run. Half and Full Marathon runners will hit a few stations twice. Study the course map for complete details.

WHAT TYPE OF WEATHER IS EXPECTED?

April is peak Spring season and the typical weather is cool mornings with warming during the day. Expect temperatures ranging from 11ºC-24ºC (52ºF-75ºF). We recommend checking the weather forecast a week before the race so you can dress appropriately.

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE JINSHANGLINE GREAT WALL MARATHON AND THE OTHER GREAT WALL MARATHON?

The JinShanLing is the most beautiful part of the Great Wall. It has been listed as a UNESCO’s world heritage site in 1987.

The race was created in 2013 by Do-Win Shoes Company and the local government. Experiencing years developed it has become established race event with around 1500 participators every year with mix Chinese runners and international runners who are from more than 30 countries around world..

The marathon occurs in the Spring season when the apricot flowers, cherry blossoms, azalea, and all kinds of wild flowers blossom, which makes the JinShanLing Great Wall a sea of flowers. (Please see the Detail of Jinshanling Great Wall http://en.jinshanlingchangcheng.com/)

This race is known to be the most challenging and rewarding for participants. Featuring the most varied terrain and course with sections of the wall in their original, crumbling condition which requires extra careful attention by participants as they traverse the ancient history of the Great Wall of China. Additional sections of the course take runners off the wall onto trails and pathways through the natural mountain and scenery surrounding the Great Wall. This gives runners new perspectives and a greater variety of scenery to enjoy!

HOW MUCH OF THE COURSE IS RUN ON THE WALL? FOR THE PARTS OF THE COURSE NOT RUN ON THE WALL, WHAT IS THE TERRAIN LIKE? WHAT IS THE ALTITUTE OF THE COURSE?

There is about 16k running on the Great Wall, the other part of the road is different trail with rocky and dirt … Highest is above sea level 492m, lowest 278m, average 374m

ARE THERE AGE RESTRICTIONS?

Yes. Due to the extreme challenge of the course, it is advised that participants are between the ages of 19 to 65 and in fit condition. For the 2019 race, participants (full/half marathon) should have a date of birth between January 1, 1954 to December 31, 1999. For 10k race Participants can be over 65.

ARE THERE HEALTH REQUIREMENTS?

Yes, you must be in good health and fit condition to participate in this challenging race. The organizing committee reserves the right to refuse entrants who are at risk of including those with heart disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, or other potential health risks.

Drinking is forbidden for all participants before the race. Smoking is forbidden at the Great Wall. Please respect the national park and do not litter the environment.

DO I NEED A TRAVEL VISA?

Yes. A China travel visa is required for foreigners to enter the country. If you haven’t applied for your visa, we recommend that you do so right away. It is best to apply early rather than risk missing out.

When applying be sure to provide in advance your flight itinerary and hotel details.

Almost all non-Chinese nationals will need a visa to enter China. There are different visa categories and you will most likely need a tourist visa (L). Please contact your local Chinese embassy or consulate for more information. The procedure normally requires submitting a visa application form, paying a fee and providing the Chinese authorities with an authorized flight itinerary from your travel agent. This process takes about one to two weeks. Note that your passport must be valid for at least six months after entry. I CAN’T MAKE IT, CAN I TRANSFER MY ENTRY?

No. Entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and entries are NON-TRANSFERABLE. Sorry, no exceptions. Due to race logistics and planning, once we receive and accept your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate. You may not give or sell your number to anyone else. Please submit a cancellation request from the contact page to let us know you will not be attending.
